Jamie, Susan, and Jennie - some of the girls that I used to work with at New Horizons, were sweet enough to throw me a shower last Sunday. (12.19)  The shower was at Susan's house where she cooked a ton of food!  To name a few of the treats - we had pizza, sausage balls, pigs in a blanket, and lots of different types of dip.  There was a quiz - How well do you know Beth Wills... and LT won getting 9 our of 16 correct.  There were some really hard questions like --

  • What is my favorite color - it totally depends on what it is we are talking about!

  • Where is one place I want to go in the world -- there are a million places I want to go..

  • Who do I think is the sexiest man alive, besides Will -- are there any other men??

  • and more..

I gave the same quiz to Will later that day and he also got 9 correct.. I was impressed.

Thanks so much girls for throwing the shower, it is always so much fun to hang out with you girls!

Christmas Pictures!

[caption id="attachment_448" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Our first Christmas was white!"][/caption]

Christmas is over now but I have now had some reporting back from my family about how their thoughts on Will.  They are agree that Will fits right in..I'm not sure if they think that is a good thing or a bad thing.. I mean, our family can be a little spunky!

This was the first Christmas in over a century that it has snowed!  I think it's special that our first Christmas was white!

Here are some pictures from our first Christmas together!

Merry Christmas!!

[caption id="attachment_443" align="alignleft" width="220" caption="Merry Christmas!!"][/caption]

This is our first Christmas (of many) together and I just couldn't be happier.  Being with Will is the best Christmas present I could ever ask for.

We are spending Christmas with my family this year.  We have several traditions of Christmas.  Every year we go to my Aunt Priscilla and Uncle Bert's house on Christmas Eve for the Willis Christmas.  We read the Christmas story, sometimes Santa even makes an appearance, we open presents and spend time with family. On Christmas morning we stay at home and hang out with my parents and do our Christmas.  We are going back up to Bert and Priscilla's for lunch today.  Tonight we celebrate the Grant Christmas at my Uncle Calvin and Aunt Nancy's house  where we will eat more delicious food and spend time with my mom's side of the family.

It's the first Christmas that Will has been away from Bainbridge, but I am so happy that we were able to be there (via speaker phone) last night for the reading of of Polar Express and I know that it meant a lot to him.

I had my first official wedding shower this past Sunday.  It was thrown by my cousin, Jessica, and two of my aunts, Nancy and Priscilla.  Jessica was nice enough to host it at her and Jeremy's new house.  We had a wonderful turnout and as always it was great to catch up with everyone and I got some GREAT gifts!!

I think its amazing how everyone comes together during these important steps of your life.  You can always really count on family!

Thanks everyone for coming!! I can't wait to see you all at the wedding!

Thanks everyone for coming!! I can't wait to see you all at the wedding!

Last weekend I got to meet the Hall's (Will's mom side of the family) at his Grandma's 80th surprise birthday party!  Will's Aunt Donna planned the whole party months in advance.  She really outdid herself with food, poems, and of course lots of catching up.  The party was a total surprise and you could just see the happiness bursting out of Grandma.  There were lots of her friends there that she hadn't seen in a while and of course lots of family.

Tomorrow is actually Don's birthday too -- Happy Birthday Don!!

Below is a picture of Will's brother-in-law, Len, Sister, Annalee and of course us.. I am an only child so I think it's so cool that I will have a new sister and brother in law!!

Santaland Diaries

[caption id="attachment_415" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Santaland Diaries playing at Horizon Theatre"]Santaland Diaries[/caption]

Last night, Will and I went to the play "Santaland Diaries."  I was looking forward to a "date-night" and getting away from all the wedding talk.  We had a great time but the show wasn't exactly as Christmas-y as we were expecting.

It hasn't really felt like Christmas time to us, I guess because of all the hustle and bustle about the wedding.  Although the play wasn't quite what we were expecting, it was pretty funny and of course it was still great to get to go out away from all the decisions I feel like we have been making. Hopefully it will start to feel more like Christmas soon!

Only 15 more days til Christmas!!!

[caption id="attachment_410" align="alignleft" width="228" caption="Broadwing Farm Cabins"][/caption]

I bet you are wondering what a mini-moon is... well, its a mini honeymoon.  It's a shorter, less elaborate honeymoon.  And that is what Will and I have decided to do in January.  We will take a longer (more elaborate) honeymoon later in the year somewhere very cool.  After much discussion of where to go on our mini-moon we have decided to go to Hot Springs, NC.  We are renting one of the cabins at Broadwing Farm.

[caption id="attachment_411" align="alignright" width="176" caption="Broadwing Farm Cabin"][/caption]

Each one of their beautiful cabins has it's own hot tub that fills with the naturally warm mineral water.

Hot Springs is known for its mineral springs and beautiful mountain views.  The town was discovered by Native Americans who found the 100+ degree mineral water, where the name Hot Springs comes from.  It's about 40 miles north of Asheville.  Even to this day Hot Springs is the only town with hot mineral water in the Southeaster United States.

I can't wait!!

If there is one word I am sick of right now, it's FLOW.  You got it, flow.

I thought we were doing such a great job planning this whole wedception.  We picked a date, a venue, locked down my Uncle Bert to cook for us, got Cindy to do our flowers and decorating, Gordon is going to do our music, set a style, heck - we even have a mission statement I'm not kidding).

So, what's the problem with Flow?  Well, my mom set up a meeting with some key people that will be helping me out (THANKS guys!) to go to the Strickland building and just finalize some small details (so we thought). We needed to figure out where the vows will take place, how the tables will be set up, where the food and drinks will be, where the DJ will be, and where I am getting ready.  Most importantly how everything can FLOW nice and smooth.  Instead of really nailing down these decisions, we had to come up with several options, since there is no telling how much room the 32 tables are going to take up. Hopefully we will be able to get something figured out before the day before - if not, we are gonna have a rockin' New Years Eve moving tables around.

Come on Jan. 2

Menu Change!

After some discussion, we have decided to change our menu!  Our menu now includes:

  • BBQ

  • Chicken Fingers

  • Baked Beans

  • Slaw

  • French Fries

  • Black Eyed Peas

  • Turnip Greens

And so you know -- Will and I are making it a point to eat at the Wedception, so if we are eating - don't interrupt.  :)

**Shuttle Update: There Isn’t Going to Be One**

I’ve mentioned before, both on this blog and to a few of you personally, that we were having a shuttle from the hotel to the R.F. Strickland store for the wedding.  However, due to some weird scheduling issues and the uncertainty around the number of folks utilizing the shuttle, we decided to not setup the shuttle.

There will be plenty of free parking and I’ll post detailed driving directions over the next several days.

Our apologies for any inconvenience and are very much looking forward to seeing you all in just a few days at our wedception!

Engagement Party!

[caption id="attachment_379" align="alignleft" width="279" caption="Katie, LT, and Me NYE 2009"][/caption]

My two best friends, Katie and LT, wanted to do something really special for Will and me.  I've known them both now for ten years (Wow!)  We were roommates in college, played ball together, and we still somehow have managed to stay the very best of friends after college.  We have always joked about who would be the first to get married, and I was never the one that we all thought would get married first.  But, life happens.  I win!   But Will did have to be approved by my girls first, obviously - he passed.

[caption id="attachment_381" align="alignright" width="322" caption="Beeessssttttt Frrriiieeeennnddssss!!"][/caption]

To help us celebrate - they decided that they would throw an engagement party and it took place last Saturday in the clubroom of my building.

We invited a lot of our closest friends and we had a great turnout.  I was so impressed with the way the girls had everything put together.  We are still eating some of the turkey wraps that were left over :)

For those of you that were able to make it, Will and I both thank you dearly.  It means a lot to both of us that you came out just to celebrate us!  We had a blast and will definitely be a night we will never forget.

[caption id="attachment_386" align="alignleft" width="398" caption="Katie, Me, and LT"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_385" align="alignleft" width="285" caption="Will and Beth at the Engagement Party"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_387" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Some of the girls at the party"][/caption]

Will would agree that I have some of the best friends ever and he is very happy to inherit his best friend-in laws.  I may not have any sisters, but these girls are like my family.  We are closer than sisters and there is just not a thing that I wouldn't do for them.

At the Ritz Carlton: Bainbridge - Bachelor Party

Unlike many (most?) folks, when coming up with what to do for my bachelor party, I knew the clichĂ© Vegas/strippers routine absolutely wasn’t my style.  At all.  However, a bachelor party would be an excellent excuse to get away from non-stop wedding planning and do something different.  I decided that I wanted to spend some one-on-one time with Dad.

I asked him for input several weeks ago but the timing was almost impossible – with everything going on around the holidays, not to mention call schedules, etc. it looked like it wasn’t to be.  As usual, Dad came through with an excellent idea.  He found a hunting lodge not very far from our hunting land where we could sit around a fire, drink cold beer, and go hunting.

[caption id="attachment_358" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="A bear deer. Get it?"]beer[/caption]

The only time we were able to schedule the trip was on the Friday after Thanksgiving and I have to say it was one of the best days of my life.  I could probably make a pretty strong case for it being in the top 3 - if I thought about it long enough.

[caption id="attachment_358" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Not me or my deer..."]Not me or my deer...[/caption] [caption id="attachment_359" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Not Dad or his deer..."]Not Dad or his deer...[/caption]

The Boring Part

Dad and I got up early Friday, left the house, and went hunting.  We were a little late getting out there as I decided I should heat up some breakfast casserole first (sorry Dad!).  Anyways, didn’t see much while hunting – I had a small doe decide the food plot I was watching was a nice comfy place for a nap – otherwise not a whole lot happening.  That, obviously, wasn’t the fun part.

[caption id="attachment_373" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Dad cheesing."]Bainbridge Ritz - Dad[/caption] [caption id="attachment_374" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Will"]Bainbridge Ritz - Will[/caption]

The Fun Part

I mentioned the fire and beer right?  THAT was the fun part.  In the morning and early afternoon Dad and I chilled around the fire smoking cigars and hanging out.  It was really great to spend some one-on-one time with the old man.  In fact, we were having such a good time I went ahead and called Mom and Beth and invited them along too.  They showed up in the evening with some steaks that we grilled over the huge fire that we built out in the fire pit.  I realize that it’s lame to invite your Mom and FiancĂ© to your bachelor party but whatareyagunnado.  Mom and Dad smoked Beth and I in Canasta in what was probably the fewest hands in the history of the game.  It’s really hard to describe the day in a blog post that relates how special the day was to me.  It’s something I’ll remember forever and I’m so glad it worked out the way it did.

I’m the luckiest guy in the world.

Oh yea, and I've gotta do better about taking pictures. Dad and I stopped and took these with my phone on the way home. Should've take more. Shame on me.

Engagement Pictures

We got the rest of our engagement pictures!  Anna Beth Kinchen did a great job with them.  Will and I both love them all!  There are about 700 pictures total, and it is impossible to pick which one is my favorite.

I already added some in my post: Engagement Pictures Sneak Peak.

You can view some of them here on Snapfish.

Piedmont Park

Thanksgiving came and now is gone.
The Willis's always have our Thanksgiving dinner at Hollonville Baptist Church's reception hall, about 75 of the family members bring their dishes and get together, visit with the family, and of course EAT! I think that I have only missed one Thanksgiving, due to a softball tournament in Disney's Sport Arena, so I was wondering how the Burke Thanksgiving would measure up.

[caption id="attachment_333" align="aligncenter" width="625" caption="Willis Thanksgiving 2010"]Willis Thanksgiving 2010[/caption]

The Burke's swap it up every year and have it at a different family members house. This year it was held at Jimmy and Karen's house in Donalsonville. Like I am used to, they each bring a different dish and have a glorious meal. We really had a great time. I got to meet some of the family that I hadn't met several weeks ago. I did miss my family but I am so glad that I am getting a new family that is very welcoming and charming.  (I didn't take any pictures, oops --just imagine one here)

Will and I are going to swap Thanksgiving and Christmas each year, this is my year to go to the Burke Thanksgiving and Will will come to the Willis Christmas. Since they are about 3.5 hours apart, we couldn't figure out any other way to do it.

It’s almost Thanksgiving!

As you all probably know, Thanksgiving is almost here.  I can’t wait!  This will be our first Thanksgiving together and Beth’s first (of many) with my Family.  Bring on the turkey and dressing!  Also just found out that Dad and I are going to go hunting Friday.  Very much looking forward to hanging out with my “old” man – we don’t get to do that as much as I’d like.

See many of you soon!

I know this is early, but I just couldn't resist.. Merry Christmas from Will, Beth, Zoe and Lucy!!!

Tonight Will and I are going to see the Cirque du Soleil show Ovo!! I have seen several Cirque shows and I LOVE them so I am super excited to be going to see this one.  If you haven't seen one of their shows before I highly recommend it.  Check out the video below and stay posted to see what we think!

Griffin Daily News

Our final newspaper announcement aired on Sunday.  We are no longer scheduled to show in any engagement announcement sections.  This is a copy of what was printed in the Griffin Daily News on Sunday, November 14, 2010.

When Harry Met Sally

[caption id="attachment_299" align="alignleft" width="164" caption="When Harry Met Sally"]When Harry Met Sally[/caption]

I think that Billy Crystal had it right when he told Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally...."When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

I totally understand that feeling.

Good times in B-town

I wrote 90% of this post several days ago and hated it.  Then the week started and I got busy so… I’m just going to post it as is.  Sorry it reads like a play-by-play but I didn’t want to wait a month before posting.

Well, we spent the whole long weekend in Bainbridge and had an excellent time.  Beth got to meet LOTS of folks and even got an “A” on the ride-home “name remembering” quiz.  It may not have seemed like it but she WAS paying attention.  It took her a while to get all the names straight (Kenneth is NOT married to Susan Smile ) but she has my family down way better than I have hers!

Thursday night we spent some time hanging out with Mom and Dad – it’s hard to beat a roaring fire and homemade pizza.  Friday afternoon we took Beth in to town for BBQ and around Dad’s office to meet my third family – Mrs. Polly, Dr. Robinson, Thea (the other Thea), Vicki, Debbie, and Kathy.  Friday night Dad fired up the Big Green Egg and cooked up some excellent Burke Beef steaks – yummy.  Later on Beth and I went out to Piper and Jaad’s house where Beth met a few of my Bainbridge friends which was fun.

Saturday we Beth helped Dad with some website marketing stuff while I ate Mom’s raw cookie dough.  That night we had a great time sitting around the fire hanging out with the Kirbo’s (times 2), the Tyson’s, and the Hobby’s.  Thank goodness for cold weather and dry firewood.  Oh yea, and I can’t forget to mention Mom’s homemade Jambalaya.  It was awesome.

On Sunday Beth got to meet ALL the in-town Burke’s at Sunday dinner complete with a roast, sweet tea, and cream corn (etc).  Beth really enjoyed the family and managed to not burp or drool at all during the meal which was an amazing feat all by itself.  On the way home we stopped by the Willis’ for some more BBQ and I finally got to meet “Aunt” (Beth's Aunt Nancy).

Pike County Journal

Another newspaper announcement was made yesterday in the Pike County Journal Reporter.  Yep, we're famous.

But, they spelled my name wrong!  Obviously they had not seen one of my favorite movies, Anne of Green Gables and I quote "...if you're going to call me Anne, would you please be sure to spell it with an 'e'?...Print out A-N-N, it looks absolutely dreadful, but Anne with an 'e' is quite distinguished. So, if you only call me Anne with an 'e', I'll try to reconcile myself to not being called Cordelia."

Pike County AnnouncementPhoto by Anna Kinchen Photography

Well you will be relieved to know that I survived my first trip to Bainbridge and yes, the wedding is still on.  Thankfully it didn't turn out to be like a remake of Meet The Parents, even though I did get a tad of a bug while I was there and had one of my famous throw up spells. (Sorry!)  I am so lucky to have met someone that shares the love of his family that I have for mine.  Family is very important to me and some people do not have the closeness that my family has.  I talk to my parents at least once a day, we get together not only for holidays but sometimes just because we want to see each other. Will also has a very close-knit family and I just love that!  I have heard that when you marry someone you aren't just marrying the other person, but you are also marrying their family.  I am glad to say that I had a great time with my new family and can't wait to meet the rest of them.

Bainbridge Bound!

Currently in the car on the way to Bainbridge, my hometown. I can't wait to see friends and family and of course for dad to meet Beth. Pictures and details to come soon! If you are in town we hope to see you there.

Our version..

[caption id="attachment_260" align="alignleft" width="640" caption="Trees at Piedmont Park taken by Anna Kinchen"][/caption]

You may have seen this picture on our engagement session link and wondered why we are holding this picture (or at least who the picture is).  Well the picture is of my Grandmother and Paw-Paw Willis from right around the time they were married.  In college I took a photography class and found some old negatives in my Grandmother's house.  I took the negatives, developed them and found some pictures that even my Grandmother had never even seen!  My Grandmother and I now have an album full of old pictures that I still cherish to this day.  This picture happens to be one of my favorites from the album.  Will suggested that we take the picture with us to our shooting session and ask Anna if we could mimic it.  I was immediately on board and just fell in love with the idea.  (I guess I'll keep that boy around for a while-he's just full of great ideas)  We showed it to Anna and she also loved the idea and we headed for the trees to create our version.

Don't tell my Grandmother (she doesn't have a computer in case you are wondering)  I plan on framing this picture and giving it to her for Christmas.

Miss Willis to wed Mr. Burke

Engagement Pictures Sneak Peak

[caption id="attachment_252" align="alignright" width="199" caption="Fox Theatre taken by Anna Kinchen"][/caption]

We had our engagement pictures taken on Saturday, October 30.  It was SO much fun!! The morning started off kinda crazy, I couldn't figure out what to wear so I had to call in the troops (best friends, Katie and LT) for some help in picking out clothes to

[caption id="attachment_250" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Piedmont Park Picture by Anna Kinchen"][/caption]

wear.  They calmed me down and Will and I were on our way to make our first pictures at Piedmont Park. We weren't too sure what to expect or where all we were going to go but as soon as we arrived at the park we meet Anna and began shooting right away.  To all the people in the park that day - you are welcome for the free entertainment.  Taking pictures in very public places is a little embarrassing because everyone is looking at you, watching every move and smiling.  From the big field we went over to the dock, from the dock over to the pavilion, then under some trees (which I will blog about later).  Then we packed up and

[caption id="attachment_251" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="The dock at Piedmont Park taken by Anna Kinchen"][/caption]

moved to Inman Park area where we took a few shots at the beginning of the Beltline.  From there we went to the Krog Steet Tunnel and Krog Street where we were able to take some

[caption id="attachment_253" align="alignright" width="199" caption="54 Columns taken by Anna Kinchen"][/caption]

industrial shots with some graffiti and ivy walls.  We took some at the 54 Columns art structure and at the Jackson Street bridge with the beautiful skyline.  We were also able to take one at the Fox!  Last night Anna told us that she put some of the pictures up on her blog and we will get the others in about three weeks.  You can check out some of the other pictures here a: Will + Beth engagement session with Anna Kinchen

Engagement Pictures Coming Soon

It's finally Friday!  We are having our engagement pictures taken tomorrow afternoon.  They are being taken by Anna Kinchen.  You can view her website here.  We are doing them in and around town.  I am really excited to see what ideas Anna has for us, it should be a lot of fun!  Stay posted for our pictures!!

I don’t care about candy…

There, I said it.  I feel better now getting that off of my chest.  I like candy, I suppose, but it doesn’t really interest me.  This was apparently shocking news today when Beth and I were discussing desert options for the Wedception.  If things were left up to me we would have BBQ Ribs for appetizer, Steak for the main course, and hamburgers for desert.  I guess that’s why it’s good it’s not left up to me.

When you are eating “yummy” candy for desert, you have Beth to thank.

Disclosure: Ironically I’m eating Skittles as I write this.  It’s not my fault, it’s Halloween candy…

UPDATE: Directions to Wedception

[mappress mapid="1"]

For those who don't already know where Concord, GA is (most of you), I thought I'd add the map below.  You can get directions to/from the RF Strickland Store where the whole thing will be held on Jan 1.  For those who need a hotel, Beth and I are currently working on setting up a group discount at a hotel in the area.  My goal is to have this settled by the end of next week so stay tuned.

Site Updates: Countdown Timer and Smartphone Version

Beth mentioned earlier today that only 66 days were left until The Big Day.  This reminded me that I’ve been meaning to add a countdown timer to the home page.  Done.  Now I know there is only 65 days, 20-something hours, a few minutes and seconds left.  Check back every hour – the countdown timer will read exactly one hour less than it did before.  AMAZING!

Also, I just added a smartphone friendly version of the site - if you have a Blackberry, Android, or iPhone, you can now read our info on the go if you want.

FYI only…

[caption id="attachment_208" align="alignright" width="207" caption="Bob Dylan"][/caption]

Bob Dylan had it right when he sang..

Oh, can’t you see that you were born to stand by my side
And I was born to be with you, you were born to be my bride
You’re the other half of what I am, you’re the missing piece

And I love you more than ever with that love that doesn’t cease

And if there is eternity I’d love you there again

[caption id="attachment_205" align="alignleft" width="132" caption="66 Days Left!"][/caption]

I only have 66 more days until I officially become Mrs. William Burke.  Weird!! I still can't believe I will be married in 66 days.  CRAZY!

Say yes to the dress...

[caption id="attachment_198" align="alignleft" width="179" caption="Vintage-y dress I like"][/caption]

I haven't been sure about what to wear for this whole wedception thing... I had looked around online for what I liked and to the left is the dress that I liked the most.  I am sure that particular dress costs way more than my budget for this entire shabang.  So, I kept looking.. .Anyway, I was looking online for some dresses I liked today and called my mom up to see if she could go to check out a few actually on me instead of in pictures online.  (everything tends to look way better in pictures than it does on my body)  I have hated dress shopping since the dawn of time, or since I had to go dress shopping with my mom for prom.. basically the same thing, right? And I know that my mom has a similar feeling about dress shopping with me. She gritted her teeth and said that there was nothing she would rather do.  So I called and made an appointment with a specialist for 12:30 and off we went to try on the white clouds.

We were greeted by the overly wedding happy staff and they began asking questions about what I like, what I don't like and so on.  I was working with a lady name Melinda, she was super nice and my polar opposite.  One of the most girlie girls ever and I am pretty sure I heard her heart break a little when I told her that no, I had not been dreaming of my wedding my entire life and I did not have the whole thing planned out by age four.  Little by little she started narrowing down the dresses she thought I would like and that were in a price range that wasn't totally out of the question.  While she was scoping out her picks I did a little searching myself and found a dress that wasn't exactly what I had described but thought it was gorgeous.  Off to the dressing rooms we went with about eight dresses.  I tried them on, and shot them down one by one until I had only two left - the one I picked out and one final dress that Melinda had picked out for me to try.  I put mine on and wha-la!  We were done. I can't give you anymore clues because I don't want to give it away.  But it doesn't look like this.

I was also able to pick out shoes (my favorite part).  I am not  showing or telling Will anymore than is in this blog post so his mind can wonder, so if you know what the dress and the fixings look like - keep it to yourself.. it's all going to be kept on the down-low.

Now only if prom dress shopping had been that easy maybe my mom and I wouldn't hate it so badly.  Dress shopping has never been so easy.

A friend of mine was just asking me, what’s the deal with this Beth chick?  For folks who know me but who haven’t seen me in a while, this whole Beth thing seems to have come from left field.  I decided that perhaps I should explain myself a bit.

As has been previously discussed, Beth and I met online via Plenty of Fish and in person on July 22, 2010.  Every day since then has been better than the last.  Why, you ask?

Ten reasons why Beth is Best

  1. She is cute. Not just how squirrels are cute, but like big time 100% even-when-sweaty cute (see above picture).

  2. She is funny hilarious. For evidence, just have a 30 second conversation with her.  Really.

  3. She uses the TAB key on a keyboard. 1% of you will even know what I’m talking about but it is, no lie, the coolest thing ever.  Ever.

  4. She is patient. I am one of the most impatient people on the planet.  I want everything to happen right now and as efficiently as possible.  As a result, I can be amazingly difficult to get along with.  Beth, however, just let’s me ramble for a while then tells me, politely, to shut the hell up.  For this she deserves a Nobel Peace Prize (well, one before they started giving them out to just anybody).

  5. She has a great memory. During our second or third date I mentioned in passing that I’d like to look into something.  I don’t remember what it was but it was some topic that I’d been meaning to Google or whatever to find out more information.  A few hours into the next day I received a totally unexpected email from Beth with the information in question.  That probably doesn’t make any sense – she probably remembers but that’s all I got! Smile

  6. She is mushy. See?

  7. She works hard. It seems that a lot of folks our age, and perhaps folks of all ages, are just plain lazy.  Beth is the opposite.  She is always doing something and doing it well.

  8. She is a great friend. Not just to me, but to others as well.  She has about a bajillion friends on Facebook and unlike me knows and keeps up with almost all of them.

  9. She is smart. Way smarter than me.

  10. She loves me. Nuff said.

Bring on 1/1/11.

LINK: A brief guide to life…

I received a scary late-night call last night about a close family member who was rushed to the hospital unexpectedly.  They are OK but I didn’t know that at the time which was very upsetting.  That experience, combined with the recent death of a good friend’s mother, has me thinking a lot about life and how short it truly is.  People and things in our lives that seem permanent aren’t, by definition.  It’s up to us to savor what we have while we have it.

I’m notoriously bad about keeping up with friends and family, it’s not that I don’t care, but I never think to stop, pick up the phone, and reach out to check on them.  Being busy is no excuse and I’m working hard to break the habit.  Beth has had a lot to do with this – she is the world’s greatest at keeping in touch with everyone.  It’s one of the many great qualities she has that I’m trying to learn from.

I ran across this post on zenhabits and found it interesting – I encourage everyone to read it.  It’s easy to forget the important things in life.

From the post:

The Brief Guide to Life:

less TV, more reading
less shopping, more outdoors
less clutter, more space
less rush, more slowness
less consuming, more creating
less junk, more real food
less busywork, more impact
less driving, more walking
less noise, more solitude
less focus on the future, more on the present
less work, more play
less worry, more smiles

Last night we went to the corn maze, had a great time with some friends (pictures will come soon) but that is not what this post is about.  I lost my bracelet from Costa Rica last night so this is an ode to my bracelet.  When Will and I were in Costa Rica we decided to get matching bracelets (yes, we know we are the master cheesers) but we have been wearing them since we got back.  His is brown, and mine was black.  I had a close call with mine at Gold Rush, but my friends found it in the street after walking by just moments after my bracelet fell off.  I had been a little hesitant to wear it since then, but Will tied it extra tight for the corn maze, but I guess it just wasn't tight enough.  Unfortunately this time I wasn't so lucky.  It's gone forever!! Only a $3 leather bracelet, but I am so sad.

This weekend

So this weekend we have some fun fall festivities planned.  We are going tonight to Cagle's corn maze up in Canton.  And then tomorrow night we are going on the Ghost Tour of Oakland Cemetary.

Tomorrow we are also planning on starting some registries at Macy's, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Amazon.com.  It's going to be a busy weekend.

What they say is true..

Well, I'm feeling kinda mushy this morning, so I thought I'd share.  (You're welcome.)

I know deciding to get married and spend your life with someone is the biggest decision of your life, I have never been so sure about anything in my entire life.  That's a great feeling.  I really cannot wait to start my life with Will.

I have heard people say that when you know you have met the one you are supposed to be with you just know, I used to think.. sure... whatever... what a corn ball.  But now I have changed my tune and I know, that saying is totally true (and I guess I'm as corny as the rest of them).  All those people were right.  When you know, you just know.

My mom probably read that thinking - oh no, someone hacked into Beth's account.. but nope.  It's me.
